Aloe vera – A Miracle From Desert And Its Benefits

Plant of immortality (as the Egyptians used to call it) or lily of the desert. Yes, that is one of the most known succulents and natural pharmacy in one – famous Aloe vera!

Although many cultures and nations have strived for this, no one is able to completely own aloe vera. This succulent has been known for 6,000 years. That’s a heck of a long time! It loves the tropical climate and grows in almost this entire climate zone. However, it prefers Africa and Asia.

We probably all know it is a fleshy plant with 1-2 ft (30-50 cm) long, pointed leaves, which are very fragile and easy to break due to the internal accumulation of water. It is the pulp inside the leaves that contains all the vitamins (including the important folic acid) and useful substances that have the healing effects.

Wondering if it deserves its fame? In our opinion it definitely does:

  • although it does not guarantee immortality, but it strongly fights the signs of aging,
  • has an amazing effect on your skin – softens it, reduces the appearance of wrinkles, works against rashes and acne,
  • it will be appreciated by pregnant women since it reduces the risk of stretch marks,
  • it works miraculously on burns from fire and sun and on unpleasant insect bites,
  • accelerates wound healing,
  • hair grows better and is smooth, shiny, strong and without dandruff,
  • nourishes nails,
  • helps prevent stomach acidity, further balances blood sugar levels and prevents cholesterol storage,
  • has anti-inflammatory effects and strengthens immunity,
  • you can use it for oral hygiene and for problems with bleeding gums and toothache.

Studies show promising results also in bone protection, cancer and diabetes. More clinical trials are necessary to prove its effects though.

Aloe vera reigns mainly in cosmetics and pharmacy, but it is definitely worth to try it even in gastronomy, where it adds a fresh taste to yogurts and smoothies. You can easily obtain a clear gel from a fresh plant, which you can use directly on wounds or stings. However, you don’t have to worry about finding a live plant quickly, dried pieces and even powder, have the same effects, from which you can prepare a healthy and tasty decoction.
