5 Easy Tricks How to Motivate Yourself

Motivate yourself can be a challenge sometimes.
It happened to all of us.
The most important is not to surrender and try to beat the sensation you feel when you don’t see results right away. Remember, achieving a big goal is a marathon, not a sprint.

Motivation usually kicks in at the end of year (yeah, that’s the time for New Year’s resolutions) and stays on for some time.
Then motivation meets two new buddies – procrastination and distraction.
And those two fellas simply take over. At that moment you start to see million things you have to do (or want to do) before you can do what you planned to do (distraction) or…
You are looking for a million distractions, so you don’t have to do what you were so motivated to do when you started (procrastination).
But you can learn how to deal with those two for sure.

1. Write down your goals

Write down your goals and be clear with them.
Making a plan is one of the first things you should do.
Because a goal without a plan is just a dream.
So if you have a long term goal, break it down into months / years.
Plan your next moves.
Later on you can modify them based on your priorities.
Just with a little strategy will be much easier to follow the steps that will lead you to achieving your ultimate goal.

2. Reward yourself

When you break your big goal into smaller bits, don’t forget to reward yourself for each one you accomplish.
You definitely deserve it!
Not only that you made that first step and started, but also accomplished some of them.
This can also be something that keeps you motivated and help you get closer to your big goal.

3. Environment is the key

Positive environment is essential for staying motivated.
It may be music that helps you focus, or people that support you.
Maybe you like success stories and motivation quotes.
The choice is yours.
When it comes to the people that you’re surrounded with, it’s important to recognize the right kind of them.
They help you grow and support you along the way.

If your close friends or loved ones are not supporting you and your goals, you need to make a change, but not regarding your goals.
Keep your circle small.
You don’t need a dozen of so-called friends, it’s enough to have one or two right persons by your side.

4. Just START

Start now! Don’t wait around for the perfect time.
“When you want to have what you’ve never had, you must do what you’ve never done.” – Thomas Jefferson said it perfectly.
When you are starting with something it’s okay, that it is not perfect.
It’ll get better with time.
But when you don’t start right away, you won’t get the skills and experiences and it will hold you back from starting.
It’s a vicious circle.
Remember that “Doing something is always better than doing nothing.”

5. Give Yourself Time To Relax

It’s important to know when to take a break, in order to avoid burnout.
There can be days when you do not want to do anything and that’s okay.
You are a human, not a machine.
Take some time off, go for a walk, read a book, meditate.
But keep your goal in mind and maybe during that break you have given yourself, you may come up with new ideas or strategies how to achieve your goal easier or even faster.
